Notes for Abstraction:
  • For the purposes of the BM measures, inpatient hospitalization includes the time of arrival to the emergency department (ED) or observation area until discharge from the inpatient setting.
  • For blood products administered in the Emergency Department/observation area which was given prior to the inpatient admission, select the allowable value for the first blood product that was transfused non-emergently.
  • For patients who received an emergency transfusion and a non-emergent transfusion, select the first non-emergent transfusion of plasma, platelets or RBCs to answer this data element.
  • RBCs includes previously donated blood
