| Notes for Abstraction: |
- If there is documentation of a Nichol’s Bowel Prep used prior to hospital arrival or prior to incision and there is no mention of other antibiotics administered prior to hospitalization or prior to incision, select “Yes.” Nichol’s Bowel Prep contains the recommended oral antibiotics for Colon Surgery.
- If there is documentation of instructions for “oral antibiotics” to be taken at home OR documentation of instructions or prescriptions given to the patient in regards to “oral antibiotics,” AND there is documentation that the oral antibiotics are the appropriate antibiotics as listed in this question, assume they were taken; select “Yes.”
