Data Element Name: Unique Blinded Health Care Organization Identifier
Collected For: , All Records (Used in transmission of anonymous patient-level data to the Joint Commission)
Definition:An identifier assigned by the Joint Commission’s Division of Research to uniquely identify the hospitals that are participating in the Blood Management pilot. It is a fictitious identifier used to differentiate between data from different hospitals.

This identifier is transmitted to the Joint Commission instead of the Joint Commission’s Health Care Organization Identifier (HCO ID) to ensure that the data is completely anonymous within the Joint Commission’s Data Warehouse. Only those individuals within the Division of Research that need to know the identity of a specific hospital will have access to this crosswalk information.
