Allowable Values:

Select the indication for the platelet transfusion event:

1    Bleeding

2    No bleeding,but scheduled for invasive procedure with documentation of thrombocytopenia or platelet dysfunction

3    No bleeding, but with documentation of thrombocytopenia or platelet dysfunction

4    Other

5    No documentation of clinical indication for the platelet transfusion

Notes for Abstraction:
  • The clinical indication for the transfusion must be documented within 24 hours after the transfusion.
  • Select “1’ if there is documentation of ‘hemorrhage’ or a massive transfusion protocol was used.
  • Select the first three platelet transfusion events after hospital arrival for abstraction.
  • If there is an indication, but there is no documentation of "thrombocytopenia", "low platelet count" or "platelet dysfunction" by the physician, PA, or APN, select "4".
