Staffing assignments may be per diem or travel. Per diem assignments are paid per day (in financial contexts) (Oxford Dictionary definition). Travel assignments describe the practice of sending staff to and from different customers, such as hospitals, clinics, or other healthcare facilities to fill short-term staffing gaps on a temporary basis both within the United States or internationally, depending on the customer need and the job (WGU Edu Blog definition, Jan 3, 2020).
