Question: Are retired Stroke Core Measures still required for comprehensive stroke centers?

According to the latest information, chart abstracted measures Stk-1,2,3,5,6,8,and 10 are being retired. Does this also apply to Comprehensive Stroke centers or will they still be required by TJC as part of the Comprehensive certification.

Answer:

The CMS/TJC changes to the stroke core measures pertain to the ORYX performance measure requirements for the hospital accreditation program only. The performance measure requirements for Primary Stroke Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center Certification remain the same. CSCs must continue to collect data for the 8 stroke core measures in addition to the 8 CSTK measures in order to achieve and/or maintain certification status. Hope this clarifies for you. Thank you for your inquiry.
