Question: TOB-2a measure algorithm change with TJC v2020B1 specification

This recent update from release notes describe it as The algorithm is being updated to account for cases that will not pass TOB2 because the patient was not screened for Tobacco Use within the past 30 days prior to the day of hospital admission. These cases will be excluded from TOB-2a.

Which means if Tobacco use status is 5 ( assuming encounter is D or E in TOB-2 this should go to category assignment B correct? but the flow diagram shows it going to Reject. It should go to B correct?

)

Answer:

If Tobacco use status is 5, it goes to "D" for TOB-2. At the top of TOB-2a algorithm, this case is initiated as "B", it is not necessary to reassign to "B", that is why it goes to end. It is not rejected.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks!
