Question: TEDS for VTE Prophylaxis

Day of arrival, patient receives ted hose. Documentation that anticoagulation is contraindicated due to possible hemorrage is present in the chart. is this documentation sufficient to pass the VTE measure?

Answer:

No. *Reasons for No VTE Prophylaxis-Hospital Admission* should address both pharmacological and mechanical approaches. Since TEDs are not sufficient prophylaxis for the stroke patient, a reason why TEDS were used rather than SCDs or foot pumps is needed.
