Answer:
For patients discharged
prior to October 1, 2009
Under the current measure specifications for STK-1: DVT Prophylaxis, (i.e., Stroke Performance Measurement Implementation Guide, 2nd Edition, Version 2.a
http://www.jointcommission.org/CertificationPrograms/PrimaryStrokeCenters/stroke_pm_edition_2_ver_2a.htm), count the day of hospital arrival as Day 1 and the day after hospital arrival as Day 2.
For patients discharged
on or after October 1, 2009
This measure has been aligned with the measure VTE-1: VTE Prophylaxis - Hospital Admission, and titled STK-1: VTE Prophylaxis for inclusion in the Specifications Manual for National Hosptial Quality Measures, Version 3.0b effective with discharges on or after October 1, 2009 (
http://www.jointcommission.org/PerformanceMeasurement/PerformanceMeasurement/Future+NHQM+Manuals.htm). With this version of the measure specifications, count the day of hospital admission as Day 1 and the day following hospital admission as Day 2.
