Question: HBIPS- Restraint and Seclusion in ED

If a patient was in restraints or seclusion in the emergency department, but not once they went up to the inpatient psychiatric unit, does this time need to be reported? Or does this only apply once the patient is on the inpatient psychiatric unit?

Answer:

The time spent in restraint and seclusion in the emergency room would not be reported for the HBIPS measures. Only restraint and seclusion events occurring in the inpatient psychiatric unit are reported.
