Question: Appropriate Justification for Multiple Antipsychotic Meds at DC - Rationale for Allowable Value 4

This is regarding why selecting allowable value 4 for HBIPS-5: Appropriate Justification for Multiple Antipsychotic Medications at DC would fail. The psychiatrists sometimes document reasons for prescribing multiple antipsychotics other than the reasons listed in allowable values 1 – 3.

Would you please provide us some feedback as to why other reasons will cause the measure to fail?

Answer:

The selection of the three appropriate justifications were decided by the HBIPS Technical Advisory Panel based on an extensive review of research studies conducted on monotherapy versus multiple antipsychotic therapy.
