Question: Are patients admitted for elective basilar stenting excluded from the stroke chart audits?
I understand that patients admitted for elective carotid intervention are excluded from the measure population. Are patients admitted for elective basilar interventions also excluded?
Answer:
If the patient was admitted for purposes of performing the basilar stent procedure and not for acute stroke, select "Yes" for
*Elective Carotid Intervention*. The list of inclusions for this data element is not all-inclusive.
The emphasis is on the admission of the patient for a scheduled, planned intervention for prevention of stroke. Patients admitted for stroke who receive a carotid intervention later in the hospital stay are not excluded from the measure population. Select "No" for Elective Carotid Intervention for these cases.
