Question: NIHSS Timed After Discharge

Have a case where the only NIHSS obtained was performed/documented at a time that occurs after patient discharge time. This is flagged as a "data quality issue" by the vendor tool. Should I leave the abstracted time as is or change the answer to "UTD"?

Thank you

Answer:

If the patient did not undergo recanalization therapy and was discharged within 12 hours of arrival to the hospital, then the case will be excluded. If this was not the situation, then enter the date/time documented for the NIHSS score available (date and time aftrer discharge. The case will go to 'D' if "Initial NIHSS Score Date" and "Initial NIHSS Score Time" minus "Arrival Date" and "Arrival Time" is greater than 720 minutes (12 hours)[CSTK-01 Timing III]. Hope this clarifies for you. Thank you for your inquiry.)
