Question: Procedure Time Inclusion Terms

In regards to the procedure inclusion terms listed in the specifications (procedure start, procedure begin and procedure initiated. For procedures that can be done at the patient's bedside, such as an EVD (extraventricular drain placement, the procedure note does not reflect the time the drain was inserted. As such, if the nurse documents in her timed note "EVD placement, placed or insertion" would that time suffice for abstraction of this data element?))

Answer:

EVD is not on any of the procedure tables used to include patients in the denominator population for the various measures,i.e., Table 8.1s, 8.1b, and therefore EVD does not impact measure rates. For procedures on the designated tables, 8.1a and 8.1b for ischemic stroke and 8.2d and 8.2e for hemorrhagic, please use the notes for abstraction provided.
