If a physician writes an order for SCDs on admission, will it meet STK-1 VTE Prophylaxis? Is RN documentation that the SCDs were applied required?
Answer:
VTE prophylaxis must be administered by the day of or day after hospital admission, or a reason for not administering prophylaixs documented in the medical record. A physician order alone is not sufficient. Documentation that SCDs were applied the day of or after hospital admission is needed.
