Question: WIll the new medication Pradaxa be acceptable as an anticoagulant at discharge?

A stroke patient with atirial fibrillation was admitted with Coumadin as a home med but was changed to Pradaxa at discharge. Should "Yes" or "No" be selected for anticoagulant therapy at discharge?


Pradaxa (Dabigatran) was just recently approved by the FDA in Octber 2010. It will be added to the next version of the Specifications Manual for National Hospital Inpatient Quality Measures, Appendix C, Table 8.3 Anticoagulant Medications for Stroke.

Select 'Yes' for Anticoagulation Therapy Prescribed at Discharge.
