Question: STK-1: IV Heparin for VTE Prophylaxis

Can IV Full-Dose Heparin Therapy be used for Stroke VTE prophylaxis performance measure?


Per version 3.0 stroke measure specifications, Appendix H, Table 2.1 VTE Prophylaxis Inclusion, ONLY Heparin given by the subcutaneous (SQ, Subcu, SC, SubQ) route may be included under allowable value '1' Low Dose Unfractionated Heparin. For stroke patients receiving continuous IV Heparin on the day of or day after hospital admission without mechanical prophylaxis,(i.e., IPC/SCD, venous foot pump), select 'A' for VTE Prophylaxis and "Yes" for *Reason for No VTE Prophylaxis*.
