Question: SCIP- Neuraxial Anesthesia- Epidural for pain control placed post-op

4Q09. How do we answer Anesthesia Type if there is documentation that an epidural catheter is placed postoperatively for anesthesia or within 24 hours after Anesthesia End Time for postoperative pain control? Is this considered neuraxial anesthesia? Please verify that the example below is correct:

Patient underwent surgery under general anesthesia. Within 24 hours of Anesthesia End Time, an epidural pain pump is placed for pain control.

Anesthesia Type= #3 (Both general and neuraxial)

The case will pass the VTE measures if the recommended type of mechanical VTE prophylaxis alone is used (within 24 hours after Anesthesia End Time)

Abstract as noted above: Anesthesia Type= #3 (Both general and neuraxial)
